Approximately 4.500 electrical companies are operating in Korea, and their total production volume reaches 21,548 million USD. The companies are achieving steady growth.

In 2007, Korean electrical industry recorded 6.2 Billion USD in exports, showing a high growth rate of 18.9% per year on average. Korean major export markets are expanding from Southeast Asia and developing countries and U.S. and Japan to Northern Europe, Mid Africa, Latin America, and rest of the world. Such remarkable growth is attributable to the development of new technology and products of a superior quality.

Korea developed the 800kilovolt (KV) Gas Insulated Switchgear in 1998 As for transformers, the 154kilovolt (KV) transformer was developed in 1967 and followed by 345kilovolt (KV) transformer in 1978, the mold transformer in 1982, the ultra high-voltage transformer of 756 kilovolt(KV) in 1999, and then the 154 kilovolt (KV) SF6 gas transformer was developed to build underground transformer substations. This chain of development led to the opening of a new chapter in the power generation and transmission industry, with the dawn of the 756kilovolt (KV) transformer.

Diverse achievements in IT technology are driving the power/transmission board and control board sector to develop advanced equipments with monitoring/diagnosis, communication, control/protection functions from existing devices with simple switchgear, insulation, and current application functions. In addition, the association is making the utmost efforts to develop environmentally-friendly products and new technologies that meet international standards, such as a stopped reactive power compensation device which automatically adjust power voltage, super-conduction applied cables, potential transformers, coils, energy storage devices, and SF6 insulating material alternatives, in order to comply with the mandatory reduction of green house gases.
